Brick Landscape Edging Options

Summary:  Brick landscape edging is most often used in gardens to delineate and define paths, flower beds, and trees.  It is available in traditional and muted brick colors and also allows for setting and architectural accuracy when used in gardens and landscapes of period houses, and brick houses.

Planning, designing, and implementing a home landscape can seem like a daunting task.  Most people want to combine beauty and function to make their yard come together.  However, there are so many options available for those looking to create an outdoor design for their home.  Though there are many types of materials out there, brick is a great tool that meets both aesthetic and functional standards.

There are many ways that brick can be implemented into a yard design.  It is a sturdy material that is suitable for heavy outdoor use.  Its deep red color also offers a splash of brightness that can be a focal point.  How one chooses to use brick is entirely up to them.

Brick landscape edging is a popular use for brick materials.  Edging is a border that runs around an area.  One may edge their flower beds, around a tree, around a pond or other water feature, or around their entire property. Brick can be used in all of these applications.  Brick edging may simply consist of typical blocks going around the edge of a feature.  In many cases, the blocks will be partially buried so that they are even or only slightly above the level of the ground.  Or, if one so chooses, they can set the bricks on the surface of the ground.  If one does choose to do this, they should be careful that the border is not a tripping hazard, particularly if children or the elderly are present.

Landscape edging brick can be used to build a structure or wall of some sort.  This wall could be functional, to keep wildlife out or provide privacy, or the wall could be for beautification purposes and cover only part of the yard or garden.  A wall like this will be hard to penetrate and offers permanent privacy.  Other structures can be made of this material as well.  One can purchase pre-made structures like statues made of brick.  These may be charming, in the shape of animals or characters, or it may be a more artistic symbol or totem.

One can purchase brick for landscaping at a number of retailers.  Most home or hardware stores will sell materials like this.  Big box stores will offer building materials, often in bulk, which is important if one is building a wall or edging their entire property.  Stone retailers will have these materials in stock in most cases.  Prices will vary depending on the retailer, the quality of the material, the amount purchased, and the current economy.  In some cases, one will be able to get a better deal if they buy a certain amount of the product.  Though it is tempting to buy cheaper materials, in many cases these are of low quality and will not hold up over the years in an outdoor environment like the yard.  It is often a good idea to spend a little extra for bricks that will last a long time.

Brick is a great landscaping tool for edging, decorating, and more.
